- This store was built in 1888 and was the location of the first telephone office of the Southwold & Dunwich Telephone Association.
- Scope and Content
- Black and white postcard showing Lumley & Company General Store, Iona, Ontario. Addressed to Lizzie. Message on the back reads "Dear Lizzie, just a reminder of Iona. Glad you are liking your new place and getting along so well. Not sure what day I will be down maybe not until next week. Will surely see you. Love Victoria" The store, located at the corner of Iona Road and Back Street, was built in 1888 by John Owen Lumley. Beginning in 1923, the store also served as the telephone office of the Southwold and Dunwich Telephone Association until it was moved to Shedden in 1966. The switchboard was located on the second floor and was run for 25 years by Mrs. F. H. Silcox, daughter of Mr. Lumley. [Source: See R3 S4 Sh6 B3 F1 87].
