- Scope and Content
- Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published 1957 with caption:" The leather-backed, swivel chair in which Ex-mayor Peter Laing sat in his office at the City Hall during his two-year term as mayor was presented to him last night as a token of appreciation for his services to the community. The presentation - it follows an already established tradition - was made by Mayor John M. Stirling at last night's City Council session. In the brief ceremony Mayor Stirling said the chair was a mark of appreciation of the citizens of St. Thomas for Mr. Laing's work on their behalf. At the same time photographs of the 1955-1956 City Council were presented to former aldermen Harry Swan, Walter Wintermute, and Ed Butterworth. Only Mahlon C. Moore was not present for the event."
