- St. Thomas Contingent, 1st Overseas Battalion, C.E.F. at the last roll call in St. Thomas, August 22, 1914. View is looking north on Hiawatha Street from Talbot Street. The Journal Building on the northwest corner of Hiawatha and Talbot Streets, and the Home Bank of Canada building on the northeast corner of Hiawatha and Talbot Streets are visible. Lew F. Thompson bicycle shop is visible on the west side of Hiawatha Street. Businesses operated by C.T. Bull, plumber; Walter Ross, wallpaperer; and Chas W. Pearce, blacksmith/ horseshoer are visible on the east side of Hiawatha Street.Photo was taken from an upper floor of the Huron & Erie Mortgage Corporation building at 472-474 Talbot Street, or the Bell Telephone Company building at 476-478 Talbot Street.
