Caption from St. Thomas Times-Journal, January 19, 1953, page one: “Brewers Retail Store Safe Is Blown: Successful Safe-Blowing Job at Brewers Retail Store Carried Out During Night.” 2_2553: “Steve Butler, manager of the Brewers Retail Store on First avenue, examines the store’s empty safe on Monday morning following discovery that it had been blown open by safe-crackers and the contents stolen during the weekend. Although he could not say how much money was taken in the robbery, Mr. Butler said receipts from Saturday sales were left in the safe. They were gone on Monday morning.”
