- Photographs of Joe Dowell kneeling beside a damaged wall with a pick in his hands. Caption from St. Thomas Times-Journal, December 16, 1952, page one: “Vandals Damage First Avenue House.” 2_2284: “Joe Dowell, 289 Ross street, holds a pick such as used by vandals over he past weekend to damage two new houses under construction on First avenue, Yarmouth Township. He indicates a sample of the damage estimated by him to be about $300 in the two houses. It is believed the vandals used the pick and hammer to smash areas of plaster board off the walls. They also climbed into the attics and kicked plaster board off the ceilings with their feet. Mr. Dowell, in charge of construction, discovered the damage when he returned to work on Monday morning.”
