- Although the exact origins are unclear, the Agricultural Development Programme was likely a depression-era provincial initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture to encourage the development of scientific agriculture. While this particular record is specific to Elgin County, the forms and methods used to record results indicate that the programme was in existence in other counties as well.
- Custodial History
- Initially part of Elgin County Library's "Government Publications" collection stored on the 4th floor of the Elgin County Administration Building.
- Scope and Content
- Fonds consists of the following: -a journal outlining a monthly work calendar and as well as activities pertaining to the following subjects: soils, cash crops, field crops, weeds, fruits, cattle, horses, poultry, swine, sheep and milk. There are also entries for activities with community organizations such as Junior Farmers. Entries are very brief. -a list of teachers involved in the programme. Divided by township, it lists the name and address of the participants, and the amount of land being used for each crop type (1931-1937).
