- "Scaling a big one - One of St. Thomas' newer industries is Allied Timber Canada, on the New York Central Railway property just off Wellington Street, west of First Avenue. The firm procures huge logs of walnut, elm, cherry, and butternut trees for the production of veneers. Shown here are, left to right, Lloyd Kinyon, manager of log procurement, of St. Thomas, who is scaling the log while being watched by Pat Flanagan, of Dubuque, Iowa, company airplane pilot; Robert Batey, president of both the parent Allied Timber Exchange Incorporated, Maquoketa, Iowa and the St. Thomas firm, and Gene Pineo, assistant manager at St. Thomas."
