- Black and white photograph of Dr. Annie Amelia Backhouse, who served as the first District President of the Elgin East District Women's Institute from 1907 to 1909, included in the East Elgin Women's Institute Tweedsmuir History, page 8. Dr. Backhouse was born in 1856 and graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, with her MD. She helped organize the Aylmer W.I. in 1902, the Courtland W.I. in 1906, and the Port Rowan W.I. in 1918. Dr. Backhouse died on June 16, 1938 at the age of 83.
