- Scope and Content
- Black and white photograph originally taken 1897 and used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published February 18, 1954 with caption: "Aylmer Public School Crowded in '97 - With an enrolment of nearly 400 pupils and a staff of eleven teachers, Aylmer's Public School in 1897 was a busy place and members of the school apparently faced the same problems with which they are beset today. Rooms in the two buildings must have been pretty well crowded to capacity. C.T. Burdick was principal at that time and his staff included Miss Mary Arnold, Miss Alice Arnold, Miss Annie Morton, Miss Mabel Wicket, Miss N. Inglis, Miss N. Sowler and Miss L. McCausland. Miss S. Glover had charge of the kindergarten, assisted by Miss G. Hutchinson and Miss M. Faulds. In this picture of the pupils and staff taken 57 years ago are many who still reside in Aylmer and district."
