Physical Description
2 negatives: plastic
Scope and Content
Photographs of two men working in the new Clevite building. Caption from St. Thomas Times-Journal, April 26, 1952, page one: “Lots of Space to Be Filled in Clevite Plant.” 2_602: “This is only the start of a long job of installing production line machinery in the main manufacturing room of the new Clevite limited plant a half-mile east of the city limits, and there’s an awful lot of space to be filled. From the point where the cameraman stood to the far wall is 280 feet and this big room is 120 feet wide. All told, there is 76,800 feet of floor space in the plant. There’s a man standing against the far wall in the centre of the picture, but he can hardly be seen. In the foreground are two of the first big stamping presses to be installed with Len Connor at work on the larger machine at the left and Alf Helsby on the one at the right. These are used in machining automobile engine main bearings. Clevite is in the midst of transferring machinery from its Metcalfe street plant to the new building and each machine will go into production in the new plant immediately. It has been installed there. Thus there will be virtually no loss of production during the move and the new plant will be in full production by July."
