Description
Framed advertisement for the Cowan Cocoa and Chocolate Company and Cowan's Perfection Cocoa. The advertisement is printed on thin cardboard and lined at the top and bottom by gold-coloured metal. The advertisement features a young girl, seated, facing the left in a three-quarter view. She wears a red hat with a wide brim, a white dress with a red sash or belt, and a white coat. She holds a tin of Cowan's Perfection Cocoa in her left hand, which faces the viewer and bears the words "NUTRITIOUS" and "ABSOLUTELY PURE." In the background at the left is an orange sunset above an open field, and at the right side is a tree surrounded by various foliage. At the top of the image is the text "COWAN'S MILK CHOCOLATE" in green text, decorated with a green flourish. The image is surrounded with a border consisting of a green ribbon, tied in a six-looped bow at each corner, and decorated with yellow and purple pansies. Surrounding this is a wider, red border. The advertisement has a brown border with a light green inner border. Displayed in a dark red-brown wooden frame and overlaid with glass. The outer border of the frame is incised with vertical lines of varying thicknesses, and the inner border of the frame is decorated with a repeating geometric design. The frame has a brown paper backing. A wire runs across the back of the frame, connected to a metal loop at either side. The Cowan Cocoa and Chocolate Company was located at 72 Sterling Rd. in Toronto. It was founded by John M. Cowan in 1899, and sold to the English Rowntree Chocolate Company in 1926.

She holds a bouquet of pink, purple, and green flowers up to her face. The woman fades into the background below the shoulders, but the bouquet trails down to the bottom of the image. In the bottom left corner is the text "BUY FERRY'S SEEDS." The image has a beige or off-white matting. Displayed in a wooden frame and overlaid with glass. The wood of the frame is stained a mid-toned yellow-brown, with incised lines coloured a darker brown. The back of the frame is covered in a thin, brown paper. A wire stretches across the back of the frame horizontally, attached to a metal loop at either side. Description
Framed lithographic print of an advertisement for the Pompeian Manufacturing Company. The print features a woman, depcited in full. She wears a hat with a wide brim and an elaborately embroidered dress. The hat is light blue or purple in colour, and decorated with large blue and purple feathers and a jewelled, golden-coloured metal embellishment. The dress is also a light blue or purple, with a Queen Anne-type neckline and an ornate brooch on her chest, golden in colour and decorated with inlaid and dangling gems, from which strings of pearls trail downward to drape around her hips. The embroidery on the dress is golden in colour, and forms a swirling organic pattern, interspersed with red gems. The woman holds a handkerchief or scarf up to her right cheek with a white-gloved hand. There are white lilies at the bottom left corner of the image. A small panel at the bottom of the image reads "'POMPEIAN BEAUTY' BY FORBES." Below the panel is the text "COPYRIGHT, 1909, BY THE POMPEIAN MFG. CO." Details, the background, and the small panel at the bottom of the image are either overlaid with gold leaf or printed with a gold-laced pigment. The image has a grey marbled matting with a purple inner border. Displayed in a gold-coloured wood and plaster frame and overlaid with glass. The outer edge of the frame has a simple, repeating rope-like pattern, and the inner edge has a simple, repeating pattern of dots or spheres. The back of the frame is covered in a thin, brown paper. A wire runs horizontally across the back of the frame, attached to a metal loop at each side. There is a business card adhered to the bottom at the back of the frame, which reads "Custom Framing and Design MINERVA ART & CUSTOM FRAMING, The Old School House, RR #7, Aylmer, Ont. N5H 2R6. KEVIN MORRELL, Owner. 1-519-765-1616." The Pompeian Manufacturing Company was largely known for their Pompeian Massage Cream and Skin Food, trademarked in 1901 and developed by British pharmacist Fred W. Stecher. The company went on to manufacture beauty powder, cold cream, rouge, lipstick, and various cosmetic products. The Pompeian Manufacturing Company was liquidated in 1950.

Framed lithographic print of an advertisement for Tudhope Sleighs. The image features two women in a red and black sleigh, who wear heavy coats and decorative hats, and are draped with a large, brown fur blanket. The sleigh is pulled by/surrounded by small caricatures of men of various ethnicities and in various dress. A large group of the caricatures are positioned in front of the sleigh, holding ropes extending from the sleigh. They are depicted mid-motion. One caricature sits at the front of the sleigh and holds the reigns, as if driving the others. Four more caricatures sit are in the sleigh with the women. One caricature is depicted mid-air behind the sleigh, as if he has fallen off. Two more push the sleigh from behind. One caricature runs behind the sleigh, depicted holding a green umbrella and wearing a pair of red-striped pants, and a tophat decorated with stars. There is a large body of water in the background, occupied by white sailboats. A dam and bridge runs from the right side of the image and into the distance at the left side of the image. The text "Tudhope Sleighs" sits at the bottom of the image, and the text "London Ptg. & Litho. Co." is at the bottom left corner. The image has a green border and is displayed with a white matting. Displayed in a dark brown wooden frame and overlaid with glass. The back of the frame is covered with a thin, brown paper. A wire runs horizontally across the back of the frame, attached to a metal loop at either side. At the top of the back of the frame is a sticker which reads "SINDEN'S LIMITED CUSTOM PICTURE FRAMING ART SUPPLIES 842-4932 193 Broadway St. Tillsonburg, Ont." The Tudhope Carriage Co. Ltd. was established in 1874 in Orillia, Ontario. By 1902 it occupied three blocks in Orillia's downtown core. As automobiles gained popularity, the company began to manufacture car exteriors. Most automobile companies made their own exteriors as time went on, so in 1924 Cockshutt Plow Co. bought Tudhope Carriage Co.
