- "Discussions About to Start - Hon. George R. Pearkes, Minister of National Defence, arrives in the station library at R.C.A.F. Station, Aylmer, to start discussions about the future of the station. The station had been scheduled to close in 1960, and a delegation of reeves, mayors and councilmen from Aylmer, Springfield, St. Thomas and Malahide, with Ron McNeil, M.L.A. for Elgin, and Warden John B. Wilson of Elgin County were on hand to see what could be done to keep the station active." (5a)
- "Veteran Meets Wartime C.O. - Alfred A. Silcox of Shedden was on hand to greet Hon. George R. Pearkes, V.C., during his tour of R.C.A.F. Station Aylmer on Monday. Mr. Silcox served in the 116th Infantry battalion in 1917 and 1918, when Mr. Pearkes was colonel in charge of the battalion. Mr. Silcox and Mr. Pearkes were in action in the Amiens district during the push on to Paris. Also in the picture are St. Thomas Alderman Vincent A. Barrie and in the rear Thomas H. Currah, who represented St. Thomas during the meeting with Mr. Pearkes and district municipal representatives." (5b)
- "Inspects Guard of Honor - After stepping from his plane at R.C.A.F. Station, Aylmer, Hon. George R. Pearkes, Minister of National Defence inspected a guard of honor in one of the hangars. - Black and white photograph retained for reference by the St. Thomas Times-Journal. Cutline reads "Ruth Peters of Aylmer poses at her home with a picture of herself as switchboard operator at the Aylmer Service Flying Training School. Mrs. Peters, a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 81 in Aylmer, said she got a chance to fly in an Anson trainer during the Second World War at the base, but remarks, 'Oh, I was sick. It was like flying in a wagon.' She also got a chance to fly in a Harvard and remarks, 'I thought I'd die.' She was one of many members of the Women's Division stationed at the base who performed a wide range of duties."
