The beaches at Port Bruce and Port Burwell were taxed to capacity by the heavy influx. The above picture was taken from the west end of the beach at Port Bruce Sunday afternoon where scores of people swam, boated, camped, and picnicked over the long weekend. They didn't escape the heat, but it was cool in the water."

Three black and white photographs used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published July 19, 1958 with captions:
" Mr. Proctor and his two brothers spent two weeks erecting this 15-foot high baking kiln at their new tile plant near Port Bruce. In the above photo, Mr. Proctor, left, and Wilfred Proctor, right, clear up unused bricks from in front of the kiln. Eight tons of soft coal loaded into eight fire pockets provide terrific heat to bake the tiles over a period of five days and nights." (10a)
" Three brothers from Port Bruce have started a new tile industry near the village of manufacturing tile for farmers and builders of the district. The machine on the left, which shapes soft clay into tile, is fed by a tractor which goes up a ramp and dumps clay into the top. This machine was moved from the old St. Thomas tile yard during the past winter. Standing by the machine, left to right, are Marlin Proctor, owner of the new plant, and his brothers, Clifford and Wilfred." (10b)
" In the right picture, Marlin and Clifford stand in the door of the kiln where tile is baked for five days. After this operation tile is placed in a shed to cool. The plant has two cooling sheds, each holding 10,000 tiles." (10c)
