- Photographs of Annie Gloin and Nurse Clarke at the Memorial Hospital Annex, Yarmouth Centre. Caption from St. Thomas Times-Journal: "Ninetieth Birthday Next Week." 1_1515: "Mrs. Annie Gloin, who has been a patient at the Memorial Hospital for nearly three years, with the exception of a few months, after breaking her hip in the fall, will observe her ninetieth birthday on Thursday of next week at the Memorial Hospital Annex, Yarmouth Centre, where she has been recently. Mrs. Gloin, who is a patient beloved by those with whom she has come in contact during her long stay in the hospital as well as by many other friends, is shown in the above photograph with Mrs. Clarence Clarke, Reg. N., supervisor at the Annex. Born in London, Ont., on April 1, 1858, Mrs. Gloin is the youngest daughter of the late William and Martha Harris. When a child, she moved to Edgeware Road to live with a sister, Mrs. Archie Michael, who died ten years ago. Her marriage to Emery Gloin, who passed away in 1923, took place nearly seventy years ago, on Christmas Day, 1878. Mr. and mrs. Gloin lived for two years at New Sarum before moving to Yarmouth Centre, where she resided until three years ago, when she had the misfortune to break her hip in a fall. Although she is the last surviving member of her family, Mrs. Gloin has five daughters and three sons: Mrs. George Durdle (Bertha), Locust street; Miss Eva Gloin, Talbot street; Mrs. George Johnson (Stella), Erie street; Mrs. William Freeman (Mabel), St. George street; Mrs. Norman Ballantyne (Gladys), Maple street; and Frank, William and Carol, of Yamouth Centre. Another son, Norman, died of wounds in the First World War. There are nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren in the happy family circle."
