History / Biographical
John Henry Jones came to St. Thomas in 1877 to become organist and choir master in the newly-erected Trinity Church, taking that position at the opening of that church. He was at Trinity until February 1920. He also taught music at St. Thomas Collegiate Institute and Alma College. He died on January 3, 1923.

Green, who raised and took the 91st Battalion overseas in the First Great War, is seen here at the head of the men in the 91st as they filed into Trinity Anglican Church Sunday morning for their annual service, held in conjunction with the reunion here this weekend. Colonel Green, who is also a veteran of the South African War, presided at the annual reunion banquet in the Legion hall Friday evening. "A Churchyard Stroll - Four local persons taking part in the Pageant of the Past are in early 19th century attire as they stroll in the churchyard of Old St. Thomas Church, led by five-year-old David Farrell, son of Rev. R.K. Farrell of Trinity Anglican Church. From left, David Farrell; Mrs. J. Fred Green, as Mrs. Edward Ermatinger, wife of an early settler; George Thorman, as Colonel Thomas Talbot; Mrs. H.L. Preston, as Mrs. William Drake, wife of the man who helped name St. Thomas; and Rev. Ray Farrell, as Rev. Alexander Mackintosh, first rector of the Old Church in 1824. Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published February 18, 1967 with caption: "Centennial Restoration - The Old St. Thomas Church, serving the city and surrounding area since pioneer days, is undergoing a major restoration designed for completion in time for a July 1 weekend Centennial service. Workmen are re-plastering, painting and refinishing the entire interior of the structure, including ceiling, floor, pews, coat of arms and creed. New pew doors are also being constructed and glass will be repaired and replaced to provide the church with its original atmosphere. The restoration is a community and Trinity Anglican Church Centennial project."

Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published June 21, 1965 with caption: "Landmark Opens For Summer - The first two of this year's services were held yesterday at the 140-year-old Old St. Thomas Church with a choral eucharist at 9 a.m. and evening prayer at 4 p.m. conducted by Rev. John Wagland, rector of Trinity Anglican Church. Evensong will be held at the Old English Church, from which the city took its name, every Sunday afternoon until Labour Day. A plaque erected by the Ontario Historical Society is studied by guest preacher Rev. R.N. Savary, left, rector of Delaware. Rev. Wagland is at the right."
