'They' were the St. Thomas Optimist Club juveniles and team members got together for the first time since their playing days during a reunion at the Sheridan Inn on the weekend. • Nine of the players made it back for the reunion, almost all of the ones that are still alive today, and one came all the way from Philadelphia. The team was one of four — Talbot Club, Kiwanis and Port Stanley were the others

"Back together - The remaining members of the St. Thomas Optimist Club juvenile baseball team of 1939 and 1940 got together at the Sheridan Inn on the weekend evening for the first time since their playing days. "Basketball entertainers coming - The fabulous Harlem Crown take on St. Thomas secondary school all-stars Friday in an exhibition basketball game at Parkside Collegiate Institute. Among them are Herb Scaife, the 6-foot-6 playing manager, an 18-year veteran of the team considered to be the clown prince of the organization, and Bobby Joe Woodson, from Oakland, Calif., who played at West Washington State. The Crown call Woodson the world's greatest dribbler, showman and comic supreme. Game time is 8 p.m. to be preceded by a students vs. staff game at 6:30 p.m." (2g)

"The Hearth Cocktail Lounge has been enlarged in conjunction with the addition of the hotel facilities." (3a)
"Official Opening Thursday - Mayor E.O. Fanjoy officially opened the Sheridan Inn Thursday afternoon, with about 100 guests present. He praised Alan G. Cliffe, president of the company, and Vince Sheridan, vice-president, for filling a gaping hole in the city's needs. Project was begun less than a year ago, and cost about $750,000 to complete. From left are Mrs. Vince Sheridan, Mr. Sheridan, Mayor Fanjoy, Mr. Cliffe and Mrs. Cliffe." (3b)
"Future plans for the Sheridan Inn call for additions that would comprise 100 rooms in a horseshoe shape. Shown above are the block of 20 rooms at present at the site." (3c)

Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published April 3, 1980 with caption:"Culinary Winners - Two chefs from the Sheridan Inn, St. Thomas, won bronze medals at the Culinary Arts Festival "80" sponsored by the Association of Chefs de Cuisine of London. Standing are Paul King, executive chef, who won the bronze medal for entry "prime rib" in the meat category and apprentice cook Robert Cooper who won the bronze medal for Vichysosse in the appetizer category. Also competing form the Sheridan Inn was sous chef Fida Rajani and cook Jeanette Kilbourne. Chefs from Toronto to Windsor entered the contest with over 70 entries in nine categories. The festival was held at Wonderland Gardens in London."
