Photographs of the remnants of a bus that was destroyed by fire, about one mile west of Frome. Caption from St. Thomas Times-Journal: "Flames Destroy $25,000 Greyhound Bus: Passengers on an eastbound Greyhound bus out of Detroit for New York had a few exciting moments Friday at noon when the big bus caught fire and burned at the side of King's Highway No. 3, just west of Frome. None of the passengers was injured and all the luggage was rescued from the burning vehicle. Passengers and luggage were transferred to an emergency bus which followed. The bus driver became aware of the trouble when he smelled smoke. He found that the pipe leading to the gasoline tank was on fire. The passengers, numbering about 15, were quickly unloaded and attempts were made to put out the fire with an extinguisher carried on the bus. A call went to the Southwold Fire Department at Shedden, three miles west. Chief Fire Warden Charles Mabee responded with members of the department and the fire truck. The bus was blazing too furiuosly for them to be of much service. Only the two front tires were saved. Within a short time the big bus was a smouldering skelton of twisted steel at the side of the highway. The burned-out bus caused much excitement among people travelling No. 3 Highway. A reporter for a Detroit newspaper was among the many Americans who passed the wreckage. Sensing a sensational story, the reporter hurried to St. Thomas to make enquiries as to the number of dead and injured. Provincial Constable Harry Gilchrist of Iona investigated the accident."

Scope and Content
Photographs of members for the Frome United Church and visitors from Frome, Somerset, England. Caption from St. Thomas Times-Journal on February 20, 1950, page one: “Young Men From Frome, Somerset, Visit Frome, Elgin.” 2_3132: “The people of Frome in Southwold Township have always taken great pride in the name of their community, given it by early settlers who came from Frome (rhymes with room), Somerset, Engl., a market town of great vintage, about 24 miles southeast of Bristol. But it is a long time since there has been any direct link between the two places. It was therefore a great pleasure for members of the Frome United Church to attend a meeting of the Y.P.U at the church Sunday evening when three young men form Frome, Somerset, were present as guests of honor. They are all now living in London, Ont., having arrived during the past year and a half and found good jobs there. They appear in the above photograph, from the left, Rx Newport, now a took and die maker a Richards-Wilcox Canadian Co., London: James Gibson, of the engineering department of Richards-Wilcox; Carole Mercer, secretary of the Y.P.U., and Clayton Silcox, Y.P.C president; and Peter Thorburn, took and die maker at General Steel wares Ltd. London. Mr. Newport had been for Canada for three months, Mr. Gibson for 18 months, and Mr. Thorburn for 2 years.”
