Kincaid, Base Commander, Canadian Forces Base Summerside, is shown presenting the Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal to Warrant Officer Neil Murray Hatch. The Silver Jubilee Medal is awarded to personnel who have served with merit, and commemorates the Queen's 25 years of reign. A native of St. Thomas, WO Hatch joined the Canadian Armed Forces in September 1959. He is married to Joyce Butler, also from St. Thomas and they have five children; Nancy, Janet, Judy, Neil and Shelly. They presently live in Summerside, P.E.I."

- Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published [197-?] with caption: "John VanVeen and Friends - John VanVeen, 7, has found new friends. John, the son of Sergeant A. Vanveen of Canadian Forces Ipperwash Army Cadet Camp, Ontario, was swimming at a beach near the Camp on July 2, when he was struck over the head by an oar a friend was using to propell a raft. John was knocked unconscious and his friend on the raft was unable to assist him. The three militia drivers working at the camp, pictured in the photo, left, Cpl. M.S. Burque, 19, of Georgetown, Ontario, centre, Private A.D. Smith, 18, of St. Thomas, and right, Private L.J. Oldham, 18, of St. Thomas were swimming nearby and answered the distress call of John's friend. The three militia members towed John to shore. Pte Smith, during town, administered artificial respiration bring John back to consciousness. John spent three days in Strathroy Hospital under observation before returning to his parents' home at Ipperwash, Ontario."

Approximately 170 Canadians are serving with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force which is tasked with keeping the peace between Syria and Israel. Of the 170, 130 are members of the logistics company which provides the supplies, transport and maintenance facilities for the force. More than 1,110 members of the Canadian Forces - men and women in the regular and reserve forces - are serving with the United Nations in Egypt, Israel, Syria and Lebanon. Sgt.
