- "For learning and drilling - St. Thomas Separate School, at the time of the Fenian Raids, provided a vantage point, not only for learning the three R's, but for drilling in military precision as well. A group of volunteers stand in military precision, muskets on shoulders, as they prepare to defend their homes and community. This was the only separate school in St. Thomas in those early days. A different picture, however, is presented today, for three modern schools, Holy Angels', St. Raphael's and St. Michael's serve the needs of the city[']s Catholic school children, while auxiliary class rooms at St. Gabriel[']s will soon be replaced by a new multi-roomed school. This school is in the fast-growing area east of First Avenue on Elm Street." (8d2)

- "American express - Train No. 31, which set the enviable record of running 118 miles in 118 minutes, ran over the MCRR Canadian Division from Buffalo to Detroit, for several years at the beginning of the century. In 1905, the engine number was changed from 434 to 8123, and it was sent to Detroit for service on the U.S. Division. It is pictured as it rounds the curve on Porter Avenue, Buffalo, doing 25 miles per hour." (8h2)
