1_2971: “The youngest contestant at the East Elgin Junior Plowing Match on the Leon Bodkin farm, one mile north of King’s Highway No. 3, Aylmer, Tuesday, was also the top winner in his class. He is shown to the left, in the above photograph, Ronald Prong, R.R. 1, Aylmer. Next from the left, seated behind the tractor, is Ronald’s brother, Fred Prong, aged 15, who finished second in their class. To the right is Bev Herman, aged 15, who finished fourth in this class. Stan Heffner, 16, was third in the class, but was not available when the photograph was taken. Ronald Prong scored 68 points to 67 points by his brother, Fred Prong. The boys were all complimented on their work by the judges and match directors. They drove tractors with single furrow plows, brought from their own home farms. John Woolley, R.R. 1, Aylmer, was first in the class for junior plowmen, 17 years to 20 years. Ronald Howe, Jaffa, was second; Peter Honsinger, third.
“The boys who took part in the match were virtually all students in the East Elgin District High School, Aylmer, members of the agricultural course in the school. They were organized by William Wood, agricultural instructor at the school, who is shown at the right in the above photograph.”
