- Photograph shows the brick home built by Samuel Haight (1810-1901) on lot 17, Concession 4, Yarmouth township. Reuben and Sarah Haight came to Otterville from Chappaqua, New York State in 1817 with their sons Samuel (1810-1901) and Ephraim (1811-1887) and moved to Sparta district in 1821. At Sparta, Reuben purcahsed 400 acres at lot 16 and 17, Concession 4. When Reuben died in 1837, the farm was divided into two-200 acre parcels, one for Samuel and the other for Ephraim. Ephraim built his house on lot 16 in 1841, and in 1848 married Elizabeth Chase, daughter of Amasa Chase and Phoebe Cole Chase. Samuel built his first house in 1837 on lot 17 and in 1839 married Phoebe Mills (1818-1893) daughter of Cornelius Mills. - Photograph showing three different styles of chairs manufactured in the factory on the Minard farm (J. Minard's Factory). The factory was located east of the house in a large building. A large room contained an engine to steam lumber for bending. Another room was used for drying. Eight to ten men were empolyed and fed each day at the family's kitchen table. Rocking chairs, dining room chairs and ktichen chairs were produced. Edward Barrett did the cain and splint bottoms for a number of years. Included in the Sparta Sorosis Women's Institute Tweedsmuir History Book, Volume Two.
