Item History
Belonged to Eliza Mary Wigmore Millman. Eliza was certified as a midwife in England in 1908. She was appointed by her family to accompany her younger brother to Canada to join his two older brothers’ in St. Thomas, Ontario. She was so sea sick on the journey to Canada she never returned to England. Eliza married farmer Robert H. Millman from Dexter, Ontario. She was unable to serve as a midwife in Canada, but it is believed that she continued to practice and assisted the indigenous women who lived on the back of the farm.
