Physical Description
1 photograph : b&w negative ; 6 x 6 cm
Scope and Content
One black-and-white negative photograph featuring Townline Church being moved by a truck, on August 29, 1963.
W9 B4 61 was published in the West Lorne Sun on August 29, 1963, with the caption: "Townline United Church was moved to West Lorne last Tuesday, having been purchased two years ago by I.O.O.F. and Rebekah Lodge for use as their lodge hall. The bricks were stripped from the buildng prior to moving, with the building now located on Chestnut Street, a few roads east of Graham. Renovations will commence shortly toward making it suitable for lodge meetings and social functions. The 68-year-old church was built by Methodists, becoming a United Church after the church union. Its cornerstone was laid in 1893 by Amasa Wood of St. Thomas, the man for whom the original St. Thomas hospital was named. The church closed in June 1961, because the congregation was too small. However, its ladies' organization, which included area ladies of other churches, kept it open for their meetings, community showers, etc., paying all expenses until the church board sold it out from under them."

Among those present were former ministers of the charge. From left to right, as greetings were exchanged between members of the congregation and clergy, are: A. W. Auckland, Warden of Elgin; Rev. S. J. Birdgette, Lambeth, minister from 1931 to 1936; Rev. J. M. Colling, Port Stanley, who was pastor in 1919, and the only minister to be ordained in the church; Rev. G. A. Shields, the present minister; Lester Longhurst, chairman of the board of trustees; Rev. Angus Taylor, London, Ont., minister from 1945 to 1951; Ralph Auckland, Sunday School superintendent; Mrs. Stuart Fife, president of the United Church Women; Mrs. Fred Helkaa, who with her husband serves as head of the Mr. and Mrs. Club of the church."(3a)
"A Look At Yesterday - Centre of much interest for the more than 300 persons who attended yesterday's special Centennial services held at Talbotville United Church were the excellent displays of pictures and memorabilia which were exhibited. Adding to the atmosphere of another day were the various items of furniture and accessories of every type which were set up to simulate a home of long ago."(3b)
"The Musicians - During yesterday's special Centennial service, held at Talbotville United Church, a special program was arranged, and this included music provided by guest soloists from distant points. Left to right are Mrs. Fred Knudsen, Petrolia, Glen Daugharty, Belleville, the soloists, and Mrs. Ralph Auckland, who is the church organist."(3c)

The overall theme was one of yesteryear, with the hostesses and many of their guests wearing costumes of the past. Evoking much interest was a living room of an earlier day, where a number of beautiful antiques were displayed. Another focal point was the tea table, pictured here, which has a replica of a church for its background. From left to right are Mrs. Elburn Gunning, Mrs. W.
