History / Biographical
The Aldborough Old Boys' Association was organized on November 27, 1920, and the first officers were as follows: President Hon. F.G. Macdiarmid; Vice-President Archibald MacColl, Secretary J.G. Gillies, Treasurer Robert Kelly; Directord Duncan McPhail, Peter Stalker, Dr. S.M. Dorland, D.M. Buchan, James Barnett, Daniel MacKillop and Michael Baker.
To commemorate the landing, at Nellie's Hill, of the early pioneers, in grateful recognition of their bravery, sacrifice, suffering, and self-denial, and to perpetuate the cherished memory of those nation builders, The Aldborough Old Boys' Association purchased and possessed several acres of land at the lakeside, and thereon are erected a number of good buildings that were used by the community when holding picnics and other public gatherings. These inviting grounds had gained popular favour with the residents of the township, and for many miles around various organizations had selected them for annual and other gatherings.
The Association has also erected an attractive cairn bearing the names of many early settlers and likewise the names of those from the township who served in the First World War.

History / Biographical
The first school in Aldborough Township opened in this section in 1818 or 1819. It was taught by Malcolm Robinson in his own house which was located on Lot 7, Concession 12. About the same time, there may have been a schoolhouse kept by Lachlan McDougall on Lot 2, Concession 13. As with all schools of the early 19th century, these would have been paid for through private tuition. The first permanent school building was built in the mid-1820s on Lot 4, Concession 13. This building was made of clay and timber and was likely replaced by a log structure a few years later. The next school was situated on Lot 1, Concession 13. The school section boundaries were laid out in the 1840s with School Section One running from the townline in the west to Lot 10 and from Concession 9 in the north south to the lake, These boundaries were realigned in 1874, greatly reducing the size of S.S. 1. About 1890, a new white frame school was built on Concession 12 and later moved to the intersection of Black's Lane and Highway #3. It was replaced by a red brick structure sometime between the years 1890 and 1913. This school was destroyed by fire on the evening of December 8, 1913. Construction of a new school started immediately, and was completed in the spring of 1914. It was made of brick with two front doors and a belfry at the peak of the roof. This school was used up until June 1965, after which the pupils attended the new Aldborough Central School. S.S. 1 was one of the few schools which did not have a name attached to it, except for the second structure, which was referred to as Squaw's Hill, because of a story that it was built on the site of an Indian burial ground.

The first school in this section was a log structure built in 1857. The first teacher was Miss Cynthia McDonald, A red brick building known as the "Goldsmith Seminary" was built in 1869. This school was replaced by another one-room red brick building in 1913. As attendance had been as high as ninety in some years, consideration was given to building a two-room school, but the majority were in favour of a one-room school. The schoolhouse was used for Sunday School and church services up to 1920. The Kingsmill School closed in June 1966, and as of 1982, was being used as a private home.

History / Biographical
The Township of Southwold was originally constituted as part of the County of Middlesex in the District of London in 1800. It was formally incorporated in 1850 as part of Middlesex County and then became one of the inaugural townships in the County of Elgin in 1852. Sometimes referred to as the "keystone township" due to its shape, it is located between Lake Erie and the Thames River immediately west of St. Thomas. It is one of the few unrestructured municipalities in Ontario, remaining unchanged in terms of its original name and boundaries. Township offices are located in Fingal. Unincorporated villages include Shedden, Fingal, Paynes Mills, Middlemarch and Talbotville, although both Shedden and Fingal were at least designated as police villages for a period.

History / Biographical
The Township of Yarmouth was incorporated January 1, 1850 as a township attached to the County of Middlesex with the first meeting of the council being held in the Mansion House in the Village of St. Thomas on January 21, 1850. The Township of Yarmouth became one of the inaugural townships when the County of Elgin was incorporated in 1852.
Yarmouth Township was named after a seaport in the County of Norfolk, England and also as a compliment to Francis Seymour or Lord Conway, who in 1793 was made Earl of Yarmouth. The original survey of Yarmouth included approximately 71,000 acres of land. The original township included all of what is now the present City of St. Thomas. At various times, however, parts of its original territory have been removed by municipal adjustments.
Unincorporated villages in the Township of Yarmouth included: Sparta, Union, New Sarum, Mapleton, Dexter, Yarmouth Centre and Orwell. The Township offices were located in St. Thomas.
On January 1st, 1998, Yarmouth Township amalgamated with the former Village of Port Stanley and Village of Belmont to create the Municipality of Central Elgin.
