History / Biographical
Eva Cosens (nee Thompson) was born in Harrow, Ontario to the late Lennox and Silina Thompson. She was a long-term resident of West Lorne, Ontario with her husband, Sydney Cosens, and was known locally for writing articles on community and historical affairs. She often signed her articles with the initials "ETC". She died on May 29th, 1968 in St. Thomas and is buriend at the Colchester Cemetery in Harrow, Ontario.

-A booklet titled "Sidelights on the Talbot Settlement" written by Ella N. Lewis, and published for the Elgin Historical Society in 1938.
-A black and white photograph showing the Talbot Estate, captured on May 20, 1961. The following information is handwritten on the reverse of the photograph: "Dormer added by Mr. Ker when attic [unveiled] to bedroom in 1958. Garage also added in 1954, built from old timber of Col Talbot's blacksmith shop."

Custodial History
These papers were collected as part of a comprehensive study into the life and career of Colonel Thomas Talbot, the early nineteenth-century settlement agent whose authority extended over much of what is now southwestern Ontario. The research was conducted by Guy St-Denis in various archival repositories with the intention of publishing a new biography of Talbot. After the project was discontinued, the photocopied documents were preserved in hopes of being useful to future scholars of Talbot and his settlement. The files were compiled ca. 1985-2003.

Site of Colonel Burwell home and first registry office, Port Talbot. One of 50 original glass "lantern" slides created in 1933 by Rev. Canon Norman Morris as part of a project to document the domestic architectural heritage of West Elgin. Slides were originally shown as part of a presentation by Rev. Morris to the Elgin Historical Society, November 6, 1933 entitled "Old Houses of West Elgin." Most of the images were subsequently printed in the Elgin Historical Society publication "Houses of Elgin County: Houses of West Elgin", 1998.
