Scope and Content
Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published July 16, 1980 with caption: "Prodigal Parrot Returns - The parrot that was terrorizing a Chestnut Street senior citizen's home last week stubbornly attacking the outstretched fingers trying to help it, was returned to its rightful owners Tuesday. "I heard that an old woman from the home a few blocks down the road had found it," said Maria Klassen, of 30 Parkview Heights. "When I got there I was taken to Mr. McIntyre who showed me the story you had written about it," she said in reference to Saturday's Times-Journal writeup. "I couldn't believe it," daughter Maria enjoined. "Perico is strong; he can crack nuts with his beak, but he'd never attack someone." The Klassens were enjoying the night air last Thursday in their backyard when Perico, comfortably perched in a tree, made his break. The family was worried that the bird no longer wished to share their company, but were cheered considerably when they went to the Aylmer pound to pick him up. As soon as he saw us he perked right up, screeching and whistling. Mrs. Noury (animal control officer) said that Perico had been a little mopey. That proved to us that we are still loved," Maria said."

Scope and Content
Two black and white photographs used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published September 2, 1976 with captions:
"Nine-year-old Marion Bruinsma and her mother, Mrs. Janet Bruinsma, right, accept one of the dogs from the animal shelter on Burwell Road. Mrs. Myrna Loveless, left, and Mrs. Margje Okkerse, behind, have been working voluntarily mornings for the last three months, cleaning and feeding the animals and trying to find homes for them rather than allow them to be destroyed. In six months, over 200 dogs have been taken, and Mrs. Loveless proudly reports that "not a single one has come back to the pound". Mrs. Loveless initiated the project of saving the dogs by obtaining donations to pay the board for the animals and advertising in the local paper for homes for them. (Photo by Brian Wilsdon)." (19a)
"Love for animals has prompted these youngsters to raise money to donate to Mrs. Myrna Loveless' drive to find homes for dogs taken in by the animal shelter and normally destroyed. They have opened their own vegetable stand, with all proceeds going to the project. In the picture, Baron, three-month-old Doberman pinscher is the centre of attention while held by Richard McNicol. The others pictured from left are: Blair Tully, Baron's owner, Kathy Simpson, Sherri McNicol and Chad Moyes, all of Centennial Avenue. (Photo by Brian Wilsdon)." (19b)

Scope and Content
Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published January 31, 1972 with caption: "Life around City Hall can be pretty humdrum at times, but an occasional occurance can give city employees a lift. Like receiving a letter from a dog. That happened to Bill Lindsay, the city's licensing officer, today. Duffy, a one-and-a-half-year-old Collie owned by the Don Edminstons of 42 East Street, was the author of the note. The dog was prompted to write the letter after he received a note from Mr. Lindsay last week which included a licence for a female dog."

Scope and Content
Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published February 23, 1972 with caption: "The Dog who Came to Dinner - An abandoned dog, which was brought to the city's animal pound last Friday, multiplied itself by six, Sunday morning, giving birth to a half-dozen puppies. Five of them remain. With the Burwell Road dog pound now resembling a maternity ward, Henry Van Eggelen, the city's animal control officer, is wondering what to do with the five puppies. He would rather give them away than destroy them, as provincial law requires, if they are not claimed."
