Governor- General Lord Elgin. ( James Bruce, 8th earl of Elgin).
The name Upper Canada was used until Confederation in 1867, and
since then our province has been called Ontario , being named after
Lake Ontario.

Non- Catholics turned out as well as area Catholics. One Baptist Minister
was so moved that he wanted to walk in the procession — on being told that
this might invalidate the rally he was content to stay among the spectators.
In 1944, St. Mary' s Church was decorated in such a fine manner that in
the opinion of competent critics it holds first place among the smaller
churches of the diocese. At the rectory a new bathroom and hot water
heating system were installed
