- Scope and Content
- Six black and white photographs used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published May 12, 1979 with captions:
- " Three-month-old Barry Backman, sleeps with none other than his doggy bear, as his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Backman of London attended the 10th annual Elgin County Kennel Club Show at the Aylmer Arena. For those in the market to purchase other paraphernalia, the dog show also provided all manner of canine condiments, including T-shirts, anit-mating spray, pewter jewellery, vitamins, and, oh yes, hot dogs." (10a)
- " This portrait of Jam, a Shih-tzu owned by Rosemary Hoo of Burlington,Ontario, represented one of some 100 different breeds. Dog owners and breeders came from all over Ontario and adjacent states to display their prize pooches. Shi-tzus were a favourite dog of ancient Japanese emperors" (10b)
- " Mrs. Betty Mercer of Beaton, Ontario, holds Duke, a standard podle, while waiting to show him .There were over 2,200 entries in the 10th annual Elgin County Kennel Club show. Judges participated in the event, including Glenn Fancy of California." (10c)
- " Ralph, a Lhasa Apso, gets his final brushing prior to being shown by his owner Lynda Kocman, of Keswick, Ontario. Lhasa Apsos were a fairly common sight at the show, but the breed most thoroughly represented was the Afghan Hound, of which there were 50 entries." (10d)
- " Martha, a poodle, strikes a dignified pose during the Elgin County Kennel Club dog show in Aylmer recently. Breed standards require that poodles be shorn to exacting specifications." (10e)
- " Someone's pulling it, but actually this is the proper way to groom a Lhasa Apso when it is being shown. Shortly after Ralph was caught in his pose, he was paraded around up and down the display ramps." (10f)
