By 1839 it was decided to divide this large group of churches into two Associations, and the Southwold church became a member of the Long Point Association. Unfortunately the Long Point fellowship was not effectively established, and by 1845 all of the churches had drifted back to the Western Association. In 1859 it was decided to gather the churches of Elgin and Middlesex Counties into an Association
