- Photographs of St. Thomas veterans of the Korean War: Sapper W. A. Lavery, Sgt. C.P. (Chet) Smith, and Pte. C. H. Marlatt being interviewed by Ron Davies of the Times-Journal.
Caption from St. Thomas Times-Journal, May 23, 1952, page thirteen: “Exuberant Soldiers Home From the War.”
2_783: “Facial expressions radiated the happiness of three St. Thomas veterans of the Korean War who came home on Thursday and who are here seen chatting with Ron Davies, of The Times-Journal. Their worries were gone and it was hard to get in a word edgewise, they were so full of things they wanted to talk about. Full of vim and vigor when the above picture was taken, the boys could hardly wait to get out and around and see the city. All are here on 60-day leaves with their families and friends. In the picture, Reporter Davies appears at the left and the soldiers are Sapper W. A. Lavery, R.C.E.; Sgt. C.P. (Chet) Smith, of the Royal Canadian Regiment and Pte. C. H. Marlatt, of the R.C.A.S.C.”

2_3957: “The first cheque under the new group insurance plans for the small merchants and other business men of the city, as sponsored by the St. Thomas Chamber of Commerce, was turned over to High Broardfoot, representing the insuring company, Thursday, by O.E. Jennings, president of the Chamber. Shown in the above photograph, left to right are: Mr. Broadfoot; Mr. Jennings, seated at the desk; and Mrs. Dorothy M. Godkin, secretary for the Chamber. The service was started for businessmen of the city with insufficient employees to operate group insurance plans for their, own, as in done in many of larger businesses and industries. The popularity of this service with the smaller businessmen is indicated in the report from R. W. Richardson, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, that more than 60 per cent are already taking advantage of it. The collections are made by the Chamber of Commence from the business firms and in turn are turned over to Mr. Broadfoot, as representative of the insuring company.”
