- A VHS tape titled "Talbot of Canada." The following description was provided on the back cover: Canada's first full-length colour feature film, traces the career of Col. Thomas Talbot, an Irish army officer who colonized most of southwestern Ontario between 1803 and 1853. Shot during 1941 in Poplar Hill, Byron, and along the shores of Lake Erie, Talbot of Canada features a cast drawn from the London Little Theatre under the direction of first time filmmaker Melburn E. Turner. This version has been reconstructed from surviving original footage and stills. The sound track, lost in a fire, was recreated using lip readers and rerecorded by some of London's finest present-day actors. A new feature, added to the restoration, illustrates the career of Col. Thomas Talbot. Thomas Talbot's arrival on the shores of Lake Erie, in 1803, marked the beginning of settlement in the London region. During the next 30 years he bought almost 30,000 settlers to southwestern Ontario and is widely acknowledged as one of Canada's best land agents. Yet, during his lifetime he stirred great controversy, which resulted from his opposition to the Reform movement and from the demands he placed on his settlers. Today his reputation as a brusque, besotted recluse overshadows his legacy as a great colonizer.
