- These papers were collected as part of a comprehensive study into the life and career of Colonel Thomas Talbot, the early nineteenth-century settlement agent whose authority extended over much of what is now southwestern Ontario. The research was conducted by Guy St-Denis in various archival repositories with the intention of publishing a new biography of Talbot. After the project was discontinued, the photocopied documents were preserved in hopes of being useful to future scholars of Talbot and his settlement. The files were compiled ca. 1985-2003.
- This collection is primarily comprised of secondary source material (reference copies). However, there are a number of original records, including newspaper articles, booklets and programmes, 1907-1977.

- Born in West Lorne, Ontario, December 12, 1880; son of William W. and Emma (Fowler) Coulter. Educated in the public schools and St. Thomas Collegiate Institute. Upon the death of his father, February 16, 1901, Mr. Coulter and his brother took over the business which had been established since 1888. In August of that year, his brother withdrew from the partnership and Mr. Coulter has carried it on ever since and built up as large a clientele of its kind as there is in the city. He specialized in Life and Fire Insurance and controled the business of some of the largest plants in the district. He is president of the Western Dairy Limited; member of the Knights of Pythias; C.O.F.; Imdependent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge Number 76; the Masonic Lodge; Mocha Shrine, and a member of the Christian Church.
- He married Miss Ada E. Mann or St. Thomas. They had two daughters. As of 1914, they lived at 86 Gladstone Avenue.

- This fonds consists of financial records maintained by the W.L. Coulter, Insurance and Real Estate buisness, which was located in St. Thomas. - Former Site of Old Boys' Reunion, likely in Aldborough Township, ca. 1900. Photograph was taken by Carl Wray. Published in the West Lorne Sun on August 25, 1983, with the following caption: "Aldborough Old Boys' Picnic, about 1905, was held at the top of the hill leading down to the fisheries. At the extreme left is the old fish-houses and a concessionaire's tent. In the left-centre background is Haven's Barn and many carriages. Below, Rodney's band plays. At right is West Lorne Citizen's Band, a platform behine for speakers and hundreds milling around, men in three-piece wool suits and ladies in the shade of their umbrellas, proving it was a hot August day".

- Colonel Leslie Patterson arrived to the Talbot Settlement alongside John Pearce and his sisters, Mrs. Storey and Mrs. John Pearce, in 1809. During the War of 1812, Patterson participated as a Private and was later promoted to Captain and Colonel. He was known for allegedly saving Colonel Thomas Talbot's life during the war.
He was married to Lydia Patterson and had nine children, including Mary, Hannah, Catherine Anne, Olivia, Frances, Lydia, Joseph and Walter. Leslie died in 1852 and is buried at St. Peter's Cemetery.
