- Other Title Info
- Title derived from original file title. The term “Indian” is an outdated term referring to the legal identity of a person registered under the Indian Act. Although used in many government documents, the term is offensive and should not be used today. The museum was later renamed the Museum of Ontario Archaeology. The original description using this term has been retained in our records to ensure that discriminatory attitudes and viewpoints are not erased from the historic record.

- "Melodies from the Past - Visitors to the newly rearranged Music Room of the Elgin County Pioneer Muesum will find much to strike a responsive chord in their hearts. A melodion, a mandolin, and an early accordion are just a few of the old instruments displayed in the attractive room where a ruby trumpeted gramaphone and ruby velvet cushions provide colorful accents. In addition local residents will enjoy the photographs and other mementoes of past music groups from the city." (27a)
- "Local History Made Accessible - A more stimulating atmosphere for research work than the Document Room of the Elgin County Pioneer Museum cannot be imagined. Framed numbers of local newspapers, crown deeds complete with their seals, and primitive maps of the area cover the walls, while swinging panels display early photographs of the city. Gilt-stamped volumes fill the shelves within easy reach of the antique desk and chair." (27b)
- "Dinner Anyone? - A kitchen scene from the past century has been recreated at the Elgin County Pioneer Museum and it is certain to give many visitors a touch of nostalgia for the days when butter was taken directly from the churns, pickles came green and crisp from stone crocks and a Bible formed part of the table setting. While much of the furnishings such as the charming pine corner cupboard have been in the room previously, a welcome addition is the central set of shelves which were built when the new annex necessitated filling in the centre window. Both the cupboard and the shelves contain a number of attractive ironstone dishes." (27c)
- "Pioneer Women's Handicrafts - Compared to today's miss, pioneer women were versatile creatures performing a large variety of creative tasks in addition to their more mundane duties. Examples of these women's work nearly filled a large upper room of the Elgin County Pioneer Museum. Brilliantly woven coverlets, gay quilts, intricate pieces of embroidery and delicate laces all attest to the multiplicity of their skills while added interest is given by the spinning wheels and spinning jenny." (27d)
- "Prepare for Opening - Putting the finishing touches on a display of glassware which will occupy the assembly room at the Elgin County Pioneer Museum is Mrs. Charles Warren, a member of Sparta Sorosis Women's Institute. Against the walls of the large room which is a part of the new adddition to the museum will stand glass cases containing many of the especially treasured and delicate pieces, while a collection of early Canadian prints and paintings will be hung on the walls." (27e)
- "The Sign of the Museum - This sign hangs outside the attractive and historic building on Talbot Street West that houses the Elgin County Pioneer Museum. Similar signs on the highway guide travellers to its doors and many have taken a few hours to delve into the fascination of Elgin's interesting and colorful past." (27f)
