- Dr. John “Jack” Cameron Dancey was born on April 4, 1914 to Leon Eugene Dancey (1870-1932) and Phoebe Alberta Travis (1878-1965). He was the grandson of Dr. Edward Dancey, the first doctor in the Township of Malahide. He married Charlotte Leone Smith (born January 11, 1914; died February 14, 2001) in 1942. They had two daughters, Mary Dancey Clarke (born 1945) and Christine “Chris” Dancey (born 1950). Dancey attended the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, graduating in May 1942, after which he established a practice in Aylmer in partnership with Dr. H.J. Davis. He later opened an office in the house he built at 406 Talbot Street E in Aylmer. He eventually left his private practice to Dr. William Cresswell, and was appointed to Health of Animals Branch of the Canadian Department of Agriculture, where he worked for 25 years. He retired in 1974. Dancey was an active member of the community, and was President of the Aylmer Curling Club, a school trustee for East Elgin Secondary School, member of the Aylmer Kinsmen Club, Aylmer Fair board member, as well as a member of Malahide Lodge No. 140.
