The coat of arms, granted by the College of Arms, is predominantly green with metallic colours highlighting it. The Talbot hound at the top is the symbol of the Talbot family who founded St. Thomas. The inscription at the bottom, Strength through Progress, is to become the city's new motto."

- Item History
- "Port Stanley Coat of Arms Arms: Argent a bend azure, three buck's heads caboosed (for the family of Stanley. Earl of Derby after whom Port Stanley was named). A chief azure, charged with a modern trading ship on waves of the sea, displaying the Canadian Ensign, surmounted in the middle chief by a green maple leaf. Crest: On a cap of maintenance, a three masted Great Lakes Schooner argent. Supporters: Two antelopes (for the family of Bostwick, Col. John Bostwick being the founder of Port Stanley). Motto: Virtue et Industria. The whole enclosed within a circle inscribed in base with the motto, and above with Port Stanley 1873 Ontario Canada". The coat of arms was designed by George Holliday before his death in 1954. The Oak Altar in Christ Church is in his memory.
