- "Plaque to memory of Jumbo unveiled - George Lang, authority on Jumbo memorabilia, and his granddaughter, Sheila Smith, standing in front of the Ontario Heritage Foundation plaque dedicated to the memory of Jumbo, unveiled the plaque[.] The 13,000-pound African elephant was killed in St. Thomas on September 15, 1885 when struck by a locomotive. The plaque was unveiled Friday during a ceremony at the Elgin County Pioneer Museum sponsored by the University Women's Club of St. Thomas. Attending the ceremony were Mrs. Jill Green, president of the club; Mrs. Marguerite Young, secretary-treasurer of the museum; Bill Haight, persident of the Elgin Historical Society; Cliff Barwick, mayor of St, Thomas; Dave Cook, Warden of Elgin County; Ron McNeil, Elgin MPP; John Wise, Elgin MP, and R. - "Plaque Unveiled - To commemorate the building of Trinity Anglican Church in 1836, an historical plaque was unveiled yesterday in front of the church grounds. Several dignitaries were on hand for the occasion. Left to right are Mrs. J. Gowan Young, Elgin County Pioneer Museum; Ron McNeil, MPP for Elgin; J. Robert Farlow, QC, chairman for the day; Mrs. Charles Blyth, reeve of Port Burwell; A. Newell Wright, who did the unveiling, long time resident of the area; Rev. Roy A. Dungey, deacon-in-charge of Trinity Church; and Leslie R. Gray, Archaeological and Historic Sites Board of Ontario." (3a)
- "Plaque Dedicated - The historic Port Burwell Trinity Anglican Church was constructed in 1836 by Colonel Mahlon Burwell, founder of the village. The first service was preached on May 22, 1836, by Rev. John Strachan. In 1909 the church was reseated, reglazed, reshingled and redecorated. The church has been used ever since it was built."
