Physical Description
2 photographs : b&w ; 16.5 x 21.5 cm or smaller
1 b&w negative : plastic
Scope and Content
Exterior west side view of Holy Angels Catholic Church, St. Thomas, ca. September 1930. Photo by Frank H. Leslie. Retained for reference by the St. Thomas Times-Journal. Also shows the church rectory or priests' residence (the building immediately to the west of the church) and a rear view of St. Joseph's convent (nuns' residence), immediately to the south of the church (10 White Street). St. Joseph's School, located on the southwest corner of Talbot and White Streets, is hidden from view by the church. The building with the sloping roof at the rear of the church served as a classroom for commercial students at St. Joseph's School. Photograph was taken from the tower of the St. Thomas Fire Hall on the west side of Southwick Street. View is looking east and includes, in the foreground, Bertrand C. Turville's lumber yard (480 Talbot Street), including the small building at left which served as the lumber yard office, with an entrance off Talbot St. and also from Southwick St. along the tracks, later George McNabb's office; Stanley Park - a small area, approximately 50 feet x 25 feet, with well manicured lawn and shrubbery, located between the rectory and Turville's lumber yard, where children were forbidden to trespass; and, in the background, the Sutherland Press building, St. Thomas Brewery "skeleton", Michigan Central Railway station, yards and shops building (constructed 1913). Note the impromptu game of baseball ongoing in the vacant lot south of the church.
File includes b&w plastic negative and photograph print (2 copies; copy 2 shows retouching on church towers.

Baptisms from November 9, 1861 to November 27, 1910 Information given: baptism date, name, date of birth, parents’ names, sponsors’ names, minster’s name. Sometimes details about their birth place, marriage, and confirmation are given. Note: the baptism records are out of order. They begin chronologically from July 13, 1890 to November 27, 1910. Then at the end of the records there is a section of various baptisms from different periods, going from November 9, 1861 to September 27, 1905. Section Two: Index of Baptisms This section contains:
An alphabetical listing of names which notes whether the baptism is described in Volume I (Section Three) or Volume II (Section Four), as well as the page number and the baptism number Section Three: Baptisms, Marriages This section contains:
A discussion of payments and various church elections
Marriages from October 13, 1839 to February 6, 1842
Lists of people and their ages

Letters about marriages conducted January 14, 1918
A second baptism section from 1876 to September 10, 1889
An index that seems to only include names that start with M, and gives the page number and the entry number Information given: the second section of baptisms gives the date of baptism, name, date of birth, parents’ names, sponsors, and minster’s name. Note: many of these documents are torn and so some of the information has been lost. Section Seven: Marriages This section contains:
Marriages from September 16, 1896 to April 6, 1910 Information given: the name, age, residence, place of birth, occupation, religious denomination, and names of parents for the bridegroom, as well as whether he is a bachelor or widower, and the name, age, residence, place of birth, religious denomination, and names of parents for the bride, as well as whether she is a spinster or widow.
