The land around Iona was opened for settlement about 1800. in 1803,
a young Irish Protestant nobleman, Colonel Thomas Talbot, landed on the north
shore of Lake Erie, about 140 miles west of Niagara Falls. Granted this
seignory by the English crown, he set about portioning
