- Description
- "Certificate of Honor" awarded to Charles W. Marlatt for his "proficiency in attendance on Maternity Cases" by the St. Thomas Hospital Medical School. The certificate was signed by the President, Treasurer, and Resident Medical Officer, and dated January 15th, 1843. At the top of the certificate is the crest of the St. Thomas Hospital. The crest is split into four quadrants, and there is a dagger at the top left corner. At the top of the crest are two fleurs-de-lis and a flower (poppy?) between them. The certificate is displayed in a wooden frame and overlaid with glass. The inner border of the frame is coated in gold leaf. The edges of the frame extend outward, to create a shape similar to a number symbol (#). The frame is decorated with a leaf-like pattern carved in relief, and a leaf-shaped cutout at each corner, held in place with a pin or nail with a white, circular head. The backing of the frame consists of two thin pieces of wood. Full text: "ST. THOMAS'S HOSPITAL MEDICAL SCHOOL. This Certificate of Honor was awarded to C.W.
