- Description
- Framed intaglio print of the piece "In Meadows Cool" by artist William Frederick Hulk. The original piece was painted in colourful oils, and was reproduced here in black and white in the photogravure style of engraving. We see a flooded meadow of tall grass and flowers, with the horizon at about the center of the image. Cows of varying patterns lay or stand in the meadow, some drinking from large puddles. We see a copse of trees in the center of the image, and another at the far left side. The artist's signature, W.F. Hulk, is in the lower left corner. The image has a wide, white or cream-coloured border, which bears the piece's title, and the text "W.F. Hulk pinxt [from Latin pinxit, he painted], No.1463. Copyright Published by S. Hildesheimer & Co. Ltd., London & Manchester." Displayed in a wooden frame and overlaid with glass. The inner border of the frame is coated in gold leaf. The wood of the frame is stained a dark brown. Some paper backing remains along the wood of the frame. The contents of the frame are held in place by three thin pieces of wood and square nails. Wire hangs across the back of the frame.
