- The Township of Bayham was incorporated in 1850 as part of the County of Middlesex. In 1852, Bayham became the easternmost township in the newly-formed County of Elgin, with the township offices located in Straffordville.
- On January 1, 1998, the Township of Bayham amalgamated with the Village of Vienna and the Village of Port Burwell to form the Municipality of Bayham.
