- Scope and Content
- Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published July 16, 1980 with caption: "Prodigal Parrot Returns - The parrot that was terrorizing a Chestnut Street senior citizen's home last week stubbornly attacking the outstretched fingers trying to help it, was returned to its rightful owners Tuesday. "I heard that an old woman from the home a few blocks down the road had found it," said Maria Klassen, of 30 Parkview Heights. "When I got there I was taken to Mr. McIntyre who showed me the story you had written about it," she said in reference to Saturday's Times-Journal writeup. "I couldn't believe it," daughter Maria enjoined. "Perico is strong; he can crack nuts with his beak, but he'd never attack someone." The Klassens were enjoying the night air last Thursday in their backyard when Perico, comfortably perched in a tree, made his break. The family was worried that the bird no longer wished to share their company, but were cheered considerably when they went to the Aylmer pound to pick him up. As soon as he saw us he perked right up, screeching and whistling. Mrs. Noury (animal control officer) said that Perico had been a little mopey. That proved to us that we are still loved," Maria said."
