- Scope and Content
- Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published February 23, 1965 with caption: "Centre Street Baptist Church - From a modest 1837 beginning, fourteen Baptists met in a small frame building at the foot of Talbot Street Hill. By 1845 a frame church had appeared and when Zion Baptist Church was formed the two congregations united to build the present church in 1879. Two daughter churches have subsequently emerged: Broderick Memorial and Edward Street. Our many fine Pastors include the Revds. J.E. Newnham, Wm. Rathby, A.S. McGrath, F. Swackhammer. Mr. R.D. Harmer became Pastor in June 1953. Latterly we have opened a new Christian Education Wing, recovered from a serious fire and greatly improved our Church structure."
