- History / Biographical
- The first log school for this school section was built in 1843 on the south half of Lot 19, Concession 4, just west of Mount Salem. The first teacher was Lydia Ostrander. In 1873, a new school was built on the Smades Estate, just south of Mount Salem. This school was destroyed by fire in 1888.
The school pictured below was built after the fire by John Chalk of Calton. This school was in use until 1962, when a new two-room brick school was built.
