- History / Biographical
- The first school in this union section was located on the north-west corner of the intersection. After this frame school was closed in 1860, it was used as a chickenhouse on the Timpany farm. In 1860, a new frame school was built on the west side of the townline, north of the intersection. This school was brick-veneered in 1915. By 1949, overcrowding was becoming a problem with as many as 60 students attending the one-room school. Construction of a new two-room school began in the fall of 1951 on 1.8 acres on the northeast corner of the intersection next to the Baptist Church. The new school was designed by Charles Gillin of London and built by Ray James, also of London. The total cost of the building was $42,000. The old one-room school was converted into a community hall in 1952. On November 23, 1980, a reunion was held at the community hall and the old school bell and a plaque were dedicated and placed in front of the former schoolhouse. U.S.S. #6/7 was closed in 1970 and on April 24, 1976, was sold for $32,000. to the Charles Philip Corp. As of 1982, the schoolhouse was being used as a ceramics shop.
