- Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published September 10, 1981 with caption: "Barn Destroyed- Damage is difficult to estimate in a fire which destroyed a pig barn on the farm of Leo Vankemenade of RR 1, Springfield, recently. [The Springfield Fire Department responded to the call.] The blaze started mid-afternoon and was still smoldering 24 hours later. Although many of the animals were led to safety, it is believed that about 50 perished."
