- Exterior view of the front entrance to the Elgin County Court House, decorated with flags and ribbons. The Elgin County Court House on Wellington and Stanley Streets was constructed 1853-1854 and opened in 1854. It was partially destroyed by fire on July 1, 1898. Under the supervision of architect Neil Darrach the building was rebuilt and enlarged, reopening in December 1899. The cannons were added to the lawn in 1902. It still operates as a Court House. Note the date 1853 above the central window. The building was decorated for the coronation of George VI, May 12, 1937.
