- "First Graves - When Captain Daniel Rapelje settled on what is now the site of the Old St. Thomas Church, two of his sons died within a year. They were buried at a site shown above marked by the horizontal slab. A few years later, Captain Rapelje deeded the present site for a graveyard and church site. The deed was recorded in 1821 and the church built in 1824." (C8 Sh3 B1 F1 11a)
- "Flower Bed - One of the pleasant additions to the Old St. Thomas Church graveyard is this attractive flower bed. It was made possible through a bequest of $24,000 in 1961 by a wealthy Detroit bachelor whose parents are buried in the cemetery. The bequest has allowed the directors of the church tohire a full-time caretaker, Joseph Topfner. Mr. Topfner is in the process of straightening the leaning old tombstones and improving the landscaping in general." (C8 Sh3 B1 F1 11b)
