- Scope and Content
- Black and white photograph used in St. Thomas Times-Journal article published June 19, 1953 with caption: "Narrow Escape - Wilfred Preston, 36, of 10 Cedar Street [St. Thomas], had a narrow escape from serious injury on Thursday evening when a ladder protruding from the rear of his light panel truck was struck by a car that was following him and driven through the front windshield of the truck. Preston ducked in time to avoid being struck by the ladder, which went through the windshield above the steering wheel. According to police, Preston was attempting to make a left hand turn off Highway No. 4 near Southdale when a car driven by Ronald Henry, of 147 Emery Street, London, Ont., struck the ladder and rear door of the panel truck. Both vehicles were southbound and police said Henry was attempting to pass a line of traffic when the crash occurred. Damage was not heavy to either vehicle."
