- History / Biographical
- This house was built in 1874 by John M. Green. It was originally built on Talbot Street, and was the home in which he lived with his wife, Inez Drake, daughter of James and Ann Drake. When Green built the Grand Central Hotel on the site of his home, he moved the house on rollers to its new location at 73 Metcalfe Street. After relocating the house, he sold it to James H. Price and Ellen Price in 1886. In 1895, the Egan family purchased the house and owned it for 69 years, until it was purchased by Alan G. Cliffe in 1964; Cliffe was the founder and manager of Viobin of Canada (later Hartz Mountain Products). At this time, Cliffe extensively renovated the house, converting it to a duplex. In 1975, the house was sold to Hugh and Peggy Pryce-Jones.
